Step 1
Preheat your oven to 190°C. Chop peeled onion and 3 cloves of garlic. Heat 1 Tbsp olive oil in a pan and add chopped garlic - stir until fragrant. Add chopped onions and stir until lightly golden. Add paprika, dried basil and salt and pepper and stir. Remove from the pan and into a small dish.
Step 2
Return pan to the stove - add 1 tbs olive oil and 1 chopped garlic clove and stir. Once fragrant add the beef mince and cook over high heat until lightly brown. Add the cooked onion you'd placed to the side and mix it together. Then add Wattie's Tomato Paste and mix. Pour in one can of Wattie's Italian Style Tomatoes - stir until well combined. Then reduce heat to low and let it simmer until white sauce is made.
Step 3
Now we make the white sauce! Melt the butter in a small saucepan add 1 clove of chopped garlic - stir until butter is melted and fragrant. Add half the flour then stir then add the rest of the flour and stir until it thickens. Slowly add half the milk and stir on medium heat. Add the rest of the milk and stir until well combined. Add 1tsp of salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside. Remove Mince from heat and set aside.
Step 4
Now we assemble! Spoon a third of the mince mixture into a square lasagna dish. Sprinkle with mozzarella then pour white sauce over the mince and cheese and sprinkle fresh-cut basil leaves on top. Lay your first two sheets of lasagna down to cover the mixture then repeat this step until the dish is full. Finishing with a layer of pasta topped with white sauce and mozzarella.
Step 5
Place the dish into the hot oven and bake for 30 mins until the pasta is cooked and the top is a golden colour.
Step 6
Remove from the oven and sprinkle over fresh Basil for taste! Serve with a side of green salad or enjoy it on its own!
