Italian Style Grilled Burgers

Try this BBQ grilled burger from @thetradiebbq this summer. It can easily be scaled up or down so it's great for family gatherings or big feasts.

Ingredients

Marinara sauce:
2 Tbsp olive oil
1x onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tsp Gregg's Tomato Paste
1 tbsp Gregg's Mixed Herbs
1 x 400g tin Wattie's Italian Style Tomatoes
Pinch salt & pepper
Patty :
800g beef mince
1 egg
1 tbsp panko bread crumbs
1 tbsp Gregg's Smoked Paprika
1 tbsp Gregg's Mixed Herbs
Burger :
4 brioche burger buns
114g mayonnaise
200g slice each Mozzarella Cheese
Fresh Basil

Marinara sauce :
Step 1
Place a medium sized saucepan over a medium to high heat and heat the olive oil, onions and garlic, sautéing until tender
Step 2
To the same pot add the Gregg's Tomato Paste and cook for 1 minute, stirring though the onions and garlic
Step 3
Sprinkle in Gregg's Italian Herbs followed by the tinned tomatoes
Step 4
Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper
Step 5
Blitz the sauce with a stick blender to a smooth consistency, adding enough water to loosen if necessary
Step 6
Set aside to cool
Burger patty :
Step 1
Add all the patty ingredients to a bowl, then using your hands massage the ingredients together
Step 2
Divide the mixture into 4 equal amounts, then roll into balls
Step 3
Flatten the balls into uniform sized patty's approx 2cm thick
Step 4
Place the patties on to a preheated bbq and cook for 6 -7 minutes aside, flipping halfway through. Add a slice of mozzarella cheese to each patty and leave to melt
Step 5
The burgers are done when they reach an internal temp of 74C
Step 6
Once they have reached their internal temp remove from the grill and allow to rest while you toast the buns
To build :
Step 1
Cut the buns in half and brush each half with mayonnaise
Step 2
Place the buns on the grill and toast until golden
Step 3
Add another squirt of mayo to the bottom half, followed by the burger patty. Drizzle a layer of marinara sauce over the cheese and garnish with a couple fresh basil leaves
Step 4
Crown with the top bun and enjoy!
