  • 650-750 g blade or chuck steak, trimmed of fat
  • ¼ cup seasoned flour
  • 2 Tbsp oil
  • 355 ml can beer
  • 1 onion, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1 large carrot, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, trimmed and chopped
  • 1 large parsnip, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 535 g can Wattie's Very Special Italian Minestrone Soup


1. Cut the meat into 3cm pieces and toss in the seasoned flour.

2. Heat the oil in a large lidded frying pan and brown the meat pieces on all sides.

3. Add the beer and simmer quickly, uncovered for 5 minutes.

4. Add the onion, carrot, celery, parsnip and, Wattie's Very Special Italian Minestrone Soup and bring to a simmer. Cover and simmer gently for 1 1/4 hours until tender. Alternatively transfer to a casserole and cook at 180°C.

Note: Adding 200g mushrooms will create a fabulous variation.

Serve with mashed potatoes and seasonal greens (in photo).
