Ingredients

  • 750 g lean cross cut blade
  • 1 leek, washed, trimmed and sliced
  • 2 carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 545 g can Wattie's Just Add Mince Country French Mince Simmer Sauce
  • 1 cup Wattie's frozen Minted Baby Peas
  • 12-16 large flat mushrooms, quartered
  • 12 slices French bread (approx)
  • 1 cup grated cheese (Edam or cheddar)

Method

1. Trim the excess fat from the meat and cut into 3cm pieces.

2. Heat a dash of oil in a large heat-proof casserole and brown the meat on both sides over a high heat.

3. Add the sliced leek and carrot to the casserole with the Wattie's Just Add Country French Mince Simmer Sauce and the mushrooms. Stir well and cover.

4. Cook at 180°C for 1 1/2 hours or until the meat is tender.

5. Stir through the Wattie's Minted Baby Peas. Arrange the French bread slices in an overlapping layer around the outside.

6. Sprinkle the cheese over the bread slices. Fan grill at 180o
C for about 8-10 minutes until the bread slices are golden.

Serve with mashed potatoes and seasonal greens on the side.
