Devilled Sausages with Crispy Garlic Bread
Perfect Winter comfort food that’s bursting with flavour and warmth for any happy family dinner.
Ingredients
- 8 thick pork or beef sausages
- 1 leek, trimmed, washed and sliced
- 550g can Wattie's Just Add Devilled Sausages Simmer Sauce
- 2 tsp prepared mustard (Dijon is nice here)
- 2 Tbsp freshly chopped thyme or parsley or use 2 tsp dried
- 750g bag Wattie's frozen Chunky Mix
- 1/2 French stick, sliced
- a little garlic butter
Method
1. Heat a frying pan, brown sausages on both sides over a low heat, turning often, to prevent skins splitting. Cut each sausage into 4-5 pieces and set aside.
2. Gently pan fry the leek until tender, but not brown. Pour over Wattie’s Just Add Devilled Sausages Simmer Sauce with 1/2 cup water, along with the mustard and thyme, or parsley and stir to combine.
3. Return cut sausages to sauce with Wattie’s frozen Chunky Mix , heat gently until the vegetables are just thawed, season if desired.
4. Carefully spoon the hot mixture into a lasagne style dish. Spread the French bread slices with garlic butter and layer on top of the devilled sausages.
5. Bake at 180°C for 20-25 minutes, or until hot and the topping is golden.
