Chilli Con Carne

Ingredients

  • 500g lean beef mince
  • 2 onions, peeled and sliced
  • 1 Tbsp crushed garlic
  • 1 tsp ground cumin (optional)
  • 420g can Wattie's Chilli Beans (Hot)
  • 1/4 cup Wattie's Tomato Sauce or Paste
  • 1 cup beef stock or water
Wattie's Chilli Beans Hot tomato sauce

Method

1. Heat the oil in a lidded frying pan and brown the minced beef, breaking it up with a fork as you go. This may be best done in two batches. Set aside.

2. Add the onions, garlic and cumin to the pan and cook 2-3 minutes until just beginning to soften.

3. Return the meat to the pan with the Wattie's Chilli Beans , Wattie's Tomato Sauce or Paste and beef stock or water.

3. Cover and simmer 15 minutes until the beef is tender.

Serve with rice and a fresh green salad.

Crockpot / Slow Cooker Instructions:

For best results, follow steps 1&2 and place in slow cooker with chilli beans, tomato paste, and 1/4 cup water or stock. Cook on LOW for approx 8 hours (refer to your user manual). Alternatively, place ingredients without browning and 1/4 cup water or stock in slow cooker and cook as above.

Very popular with my family

This one's good. You can cook it anywhere - in a camp oven on the boat, in the shack in the bush... and it's warming in winter, easy in summer with the salad.

Easy to make, good value for money, add a bit of hot sauce with extra chillies to really spice it up and top it off with gaucomole and sour cream. Alternatively have it with nachos for a change - yummy!
