Apple and Cinnamon Glazed Ham
Pork and apple the way it should be done. We defy anyone not to make a bit of a pig of themselves when served this dish.
Ingredients
- 100% New Zealand Pork Cooked half Ham on the Bone
- 2 Tblsp approx. whole cloves
- 300 ml bottle Wattie's Bit on the Side Absolutely Apple Sauce
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp wholegrain mustard
- 2 Tblsp soft brown sugar
- 1 apple, preferably Granny Smith or Braeburn
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp wholegrain mustard
Method
1. Carefully run your fingers under the skin of the 100% New Zealand Pork Cooked Half Ham on the Bone and lift it away. Do this slowly so you finish with a smooth layer of fat that will glaze beautifully. Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
2. Using a small sharp knife, cut ham fat layer into a criss-cross diamond pattern. Decorate the ham with whole cloves. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup Wattie’s Bit on the Side Absolutely Apple Sauce with first measure of ground cinnamon, mustard andbrown sugar, mix well.
3. Quarter and core apple, cut into thick slices, arrange the apple slices around the shank end of the ham, securing with toothpicks. Brush the apple and ham liberally with the apple and cinnamon glaze.
4. To glaze and serve cold : Bake at 180°C for 35-40 minutes, brushing with any remaining apple and cinnamon glaze.
To glaze and serve hot : Cook at 160°C, allowing 20 minutes per kg. Brushing with any remaining apple and cinnamon glaze every 15 minutes.
5. Combine the remaining Wattie’s Bit on the Side Absolutely Apple Sauce with second measure of cinnamon and mustard. Heat gently, do not boil, serve on the side with the ham.
