Did You Know
Savoury Mince and Beans base
 Prep time: 5 minutes
 Cook time: 20 minutes
 Serves: 4
  • 1 onion, peeled and chopped
  • 300g lean beef mince
  • 400g can chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tsp Marmite or Vegemite
  • 1 Tbsp Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
  • 420g can Wattie’s Baked Beans

Heat a dash of oil in a frying pan and cook the onion until it begins to soften. Add beef mince and brown over a high heat, breaking up the mince with a fork if necessary.

Stir in the can of chopped tomatoes, Marmite and Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

Add Wattie’s Baked Beans and continue cooking for a further 10 minutes until the mince is cooked through and the beans are hot.

Add a flavour twist to the base

Spice it up with sweet chilli, Tabasco or HP Sauce.

I enjoy giving the family a healthy protein satisfying meal, and I can still enjoy my diet without doing a second meal. I just have to leave off the potatoes or pastry. Cold winter nights after rugby a quick meal to warm you up and satisfy that hunger. Working on a budget and making the food stretch when friends come over - Well done Watties
